GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday and charged with resisting police and child abuse after he fled from a Gainesville police officer, who was attempting to make a traffic stop, and then ran from the car, leaving a 4-month-old child inside, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Police said K-Wan L. Brennen was spotted driving recklessly headed east on NW 16th Avenue. Police said Brennen was speeding and running stop signs and red lights.

The officer attempted to pull Brennen over, but Brennen fled, eventually traveling into oncoming traffic on NW 6th Street, heading southbound in the northbound lanes. Brennen stopped in the 1100 block of NW 6th Street and fled from the vehicle.

Police set up a perimeter and called in a K9 officer to track Brennen, who was found on the "Rails-to-Trails" bicycle path.

After the chase, police found Brennen had a 4-month child in the vehicle during the incident.
