Restaurant disturbance prompts arrest of felon
PALATKA, Fla. – Putnam County deputies called to a disturbance at a restaurant in Interlachen Wednesday ended up arresting Kyle Eugene Maurer, 28, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false information to a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Sheriff's Office said Maurer was gone when deputies arrived at the restaurant, but they got a vehicle description and stopped one of the cars in front of Maurer's house. According to the arrest report, Maurer gave deputies a false name, but the homeowner confirmed Maurer's identity.
Deputies got permission to search Maurer's room and found five marijuana pipes, 19 syringes and 10 spoons used to prepare drugs for injection. The deputies also found a .22-caliber rifle and a mini-crossbow in the room.
In addition, officers discovered an outstanding warrant for Maurer for violation of probation. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail and is being held without bond.
The pipes and syringes were turned in for testing of the contents to determine if they are illegal drugs.
