Another hole opens in construction zone of I-95

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police were directing traffic around a lane of Interstate 95 south of downtown late Friday afternoon due to a hole that opened in the pavement.

The hole was reported by inspectors with the Overland Bridge replacement. One lane will remain closed until after 7 p.m., when traffic lightens up and the two lanes needed to start the repairs. Weather permitting, crews hope the hole is repaired overnight.

No cause for the hole was identified, but the concrete pavement deteriorates over time and is repaired as needed. This is at least the third hole that has opened up in the past 30 days.

The Florida Department of Transportation is making repairs as needed until new facilities operational with the bridge replacement project before demolishing the existing ones.
