6 injured when boat crashes into Seven Mile Bridge

3 victims airlifted to a Miami hospital with severe injuries


MARATHON, Fla. – Six people were injured Sunday night when their boat hit a bridge piling on the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon.

According to a spokesperson for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office,  deputies and rescue units responded to the scene around 7:45 p.m. Three of the victims with serious injuries were airlifted to a Miami hospital; The other three were taken to Fisherman's Hospital.

The preliminary investigation found they were the only six people on board the boat at the time of the crash. The boat was towed to Sunset Grille in Marathon.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continues to investigate.
