Armed robbery near UF student housing

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Police in Gainesville are searching for one of two suspects in an armed robbery.  

The University of Florida tweeted just after 2 a.m. that an armed robbery took place in the area of 4400 SW 20th Avenue, which is the location of Canopy Apartments, student housing.

According to UF's tweets, the two suspects are both males.  The suspects were said to be armed with a silver revolver.  

Police detained one of the men at Hull and Bledsoe Drive.  The second male suspect is on the loose. 

According to UF's tweets, police are looking for a black male with low cut hair, wearing white shorts and no shirt.

At the time UF asked anyone living in University Village South or Maguire Village to stay indoors.  

Around 3:40 a.m. UF tweeted it's possible the suspect may have left the campus.  It said police did not find the man in University Village South or Maguire Village.  Police decided to clear the scene. 

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
