Truck crashes into church

Driver pinned to vehicle; suffers serious injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning after he crashed his truck into Hibernia Baptist Church at the intersection of Lane Avenue and San Juan Avenue.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. "The vehicle was on fire, it was engulfed, the engine was blocked. The flames were extended into the cabin. The driver was pinned inside the vehicle and he could not be safely extracted from the vehicle. Officers use their fire extinguishers to put out the flames," said Lt. Jesse York. "Fire control arrived at the scene shortly there after and assessed the situation.  At that point, they went ahead and extracted the individual after sometime. He was badly pinned in that vehicle."

JSO says the man was traveling at a high rate of speed on San Juan Avenue.

The driver has been transport to a local hospital where he is recovering from serious injuries. JSO says they managed to pull the man out before the flames reached him.
