JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 47-year-old man was convicted Wednesday evening of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Phillip Dewayne Burns, 47, now faces up to life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Oct. 5.

In March 2015, officers arrived at Motor Maxx on Atlantic Boulevard and found the owner of the business shot in the leg. The investigation revealed that the victim hired Burns to paint a building.

When the two of them got into a dispute over pay, Burns shot the victim in the leg and then fled the scene. Burns was captured nearby shortly after the incident.
