Twin brothers convicted in murder, kidnapping, robbery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Twin brothers were found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery.

According to the Office of the State Attorney, 35-year-old twins, Jonathan Brent Nibbelink and Joshua Brian Nibbelink, and a co-defendant, Gary Shepersky, contacted Dwight Martin in November 2013 and told him they wanted to purchase drugs from him.

An investigation found, however, that the three suspects planned to rob Martin of his drugs and money.

Officials said when Martin arrived, the suspects approached him from behind, choked him and tackled him before tying him up with bungee cords, beating and kicking him repeatedly and stuffing a rag soaked with cleaning fluid down his throat. Martin's body was then put in a rental car, driven to Putnam County and dumped in a wooded area.

Officials said the trio abandoned the car. Martin's skeletal remains were found a few weeks later.

The Nibbelink twins face life in prison. Their sentencing is scheduled for next week.

Shepersky pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery. He is awaiting sentencing.
