2 hurt in Jax Beach crash involving motorcycle

Cops: 2 people suffer serious but non-life-threatening injuries

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – The rider and passenger on on motorcycle were hospitalized Saturday night after it struck a car turning onto 3rd Street South, Jacksonville Beach police say.

Jacksonville Beach police said the motorcycle operator, Dillun Dernick, 21, was taken by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville. The passenger was also transported to UF Health, but by rescue. Police said they both had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither the driver of the car, Timothy Leonard Runac, 63, nor his passenger were injured.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle going north at a high rate of speed and being operated recklessly. When Runac's car turned left onto 3rd Street from 15th Avenue South, witnesses say the motorcycle hit the left rear fender. The passenger of the motorcycle was ejected; the driver slid along the roadway. 

Police said charges are pending toxicology results on Dernick.
