GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A woman accused of stabbing a victim multiple times Tuesday was caught by a fugitive task force when she went to a hospital, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said.

Lasonya Denise Collins was captured about 12:30 p.m. at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, deputies said.

She was the suspect in a stabbing in Chiefland earlier Tuesday morning.

Deputies said Collins went to a home in Chiefland and stabbed a victim multiple times with an edged weapon.

Task force members from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, and the Gainesville Police Department responded to the hospital where hospital staff directed them to an elevator the suspect was seen using.

Collins was spotted as she attempted to leave the hospital and was taken into custody without incident, deputies said.

Collins was booked into the Alachua County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She will be extradited to Levy County to face the charge.
