16-year-old had brass knuckle knife on campus, deputies say

Teen charged with felony possession of weapon on school property

FLAGLER COUNTY – A 16-year-old student at the Flagler Technical Institute was arrested Monday after deputies said he had a knife on campus.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, a mother of a boy at the school called to say she received information from her son that there was a weapon hidden in a bathroom on campus.

As officials investigated, all outdoor activities were canceled, no classes were changed and students and staff remained in place.

Deputies said they and school staff ultimately had to disassemble the bathroom ceiling, cutting into the wall and discovered money, an empty pill bottle and a brass knuckle knife.

The 16-year-old boy, who has not been identified, was arrested without incident and charged with one count of felony possession of a weapon on school property. He was processed at the Flagler County Sheriff's Office Detention Services Division Jail and later released to his parents.

Deputies said a follow-up investigation is underway.
