Work begins on Mandarin intersection improvements

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Residents of Mandarin will see some changes soon that could help alleviate traffic tie-ups at the intersection of Old St. Augustine Road with Loretto and Greenland roads.

A new turn lane is being added at the southeast corner of the intersection, with the goal of helping with the traffic flow in the mornings and evenings.

Organizers broke ground on the JTA Mobility Works project Tuesday afternoon.

City Councilman Matt Schellenberg said the project was conceived seven or eight years ago, but wasn't able to be completed until now.

A retired pastor at the church who made a push for the changes years ago is happy to see them finally coming to fruition.

The project is expected to take about six months, and since most of the construction will take place off the existing roadway, authorities hope there will be minimal disruption.
