Man accused of DUI with kids in truck

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 58-year-old St. Augustine man is accused of driving drunk with two elementary school-aged children in his truck, according to an arrest report from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Lloyd Bishop Jr. was arrested Tuesday night and charged with DUI with children under 18 in the vehicle and child neglect.

A deputy said that he spotted Bishop spinning the wheels of his black Ford Ranger pickup truck at a traffic light at the corner of Old Moultrie Road and U.S. 1 South. The deputy said Bishop fishtailed and then pulled into a trailer park on U.S. 1 South. The deputy said he followed and attempted to pull Bishop over, but Bishop drove for another 50 yards, pulling into a lot at the trailer park.

The deputy said he approached Bishop and "detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" from Bishop's breath and noted that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Bishop had two children in the truck, ages 8 and 10, who were not wearing seat belts, the deputy said.

Bishop admitted to the deputy that he "had a few beers earlier" and then failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, according to the deputy.

He was booked into the St. Johns County Jail and has since been released.
