JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 54-year-old man was stabbed to death early Thursday morning near Brentwood Park by a man who was dating the same woman as the victim, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Herbert Williams, 50, is charged with murder in the death of Keith Brown, police said.
Officers called at 7:16 a.m. Thursday arrived to find Brown dead on a sidewalk in front of a home near the intersection of West 22nd Street and Boulevard. Police said Brown was stabbed in the chest, neck and face.
Lt. Steve Gallaher said a witness, who said she was Williams' girlfriend, told police that she and Williams had gotten into a fight the night before the stabbing and that she left their house and went to Brown's house.
The witness said she and Williams had been living together on-and-off for six years, but during that time she was also dating Brown.
The witness told police that Williams spotted her and Brown walking down the sidewalk Thursday morning and confronted them, demanding that she return home.
She said Williams then pulled out a knife and stabbed Brown in the side and then continued to stab him as he fell to the ground.
Gallaher said Williams admitted to the confrontation and to stabbing Brown several times. He also admitted to disposing of the knife, which police were able to recover from the roof of a nearby convenience store, Gallaher said.
"Technically, by law, the victim and the suspect are not related in a domestic relationship, so it wouldn't be (a domestic violence case), but it's obviously got the domestic undertone," Gallaher said.
