Man hit, killed by pickup truck in Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man using a walker was hit and killed by a pickup truck around 7 p.m. Thursday night while crossing Monument Road in Arlington, police said.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to UF Health with life-threatening injuries, and died a short time later.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said he was wearing dark-colored clothes and was not using a crosswalk when the accident happened.

"He was wearing dark clothing, there's no crosswalk here, it's not very well lit in this area. He stepped into the roadway, he was using a walker, and was struck by a pickup truck," Lt. Steve Mullen with JSO said.

Police did not immediately say if the driver of the truck would face any charges but traffic homicide is investigating the accident.

Monument Road southbound was closed between Regency Square Boulevard South and Atlantic Boulevard for a few hours while police investigated the accident.
