Police: Man hospitalized after Westside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was taken to a hospital Monday afternoon after a shooting at a Westside apartment complex, police said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, which happened at the Canterbury Gardens Apartments on Lane Avenue South.

Police said a 30-year-old man was shot once in the lower back.

The man was being transported by a car to a local hospital when he asked the driver to stop. The man then got out of the car and collapsed in front of a business on Cassat Avenue, 2 miles away, police said.

Shortly after, JFRD arrived at the business and transported the victim to UF Health, but it's unclear how serious his injuries were.

JSO said the suspect in the incident was located at the scene and taken to the Detective Division to be interviewed.
