Police: Man hospitalized after Westside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was taken to a hospital Monday afternoon after a shooting at a Westside apartment complex, police said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, which happened at the Canterbury Gardens Apartments on Lane Avenue South.

Police said a 30-year-old man was shot once in the lower back.

The man was being transported by a car to a local hospital when he asked the driver to stop. The man then got out of the car and collapsed in front of a business on Cassat Avenue, 2 miles away, police said.

Shortly after, JFRD arrived at the business and transported the victim to UF Health, but it's unclear how serious his injuries were.
