Man convicted in 2002 rape, kidnapping

Richard Curtis Sanders, 60, faces life in prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was found guilty Wednesday in the rape and kidnapping of a woman in downtown Jacksonville in March 2002.

According to the Office of the State Attorney, Richard Curtis Sanders Jr., 60, covered the victim's head with a blanket, while threatening to kill her if she was not quiet, and led her around a corner. There he shoved her to the ground and raped her before leaving the area.

Officials said Sanders' DNA matched the DNA recovered from the victim following the attack.

Sanders will be sentenced the week of Jan. 11. He faces life in prison.
