Unidentified man found dead in Flagler home fire
Eighteen firefighters called to extinguish flames
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. –
Firefighters battled a fire yesterday in western Flagler County where they found a man dead inside the home.
The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 40 Kentucky Ave. off of County Road 2006 shortly after 8:44 p.m. Saturday.
“The flame appeared to have started in the back of the house,” said Flagler County Fire Rescue Capt. Richard Bennett.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of his family. The garage behind the house and a recreational vehicle also caught fire.
Eighteen firefighters from Flagler County, Bunnell and Palm Coast were called to extinguish the flames. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler.
Electricity was turned off affecting about 1,000 homes.
Flagler County Fire Marshal Joe King and State Fire Marshal Jeff Ruland began investigating the cause of the fire shortly after midnight.
“We will still be here for many hours,” Bennett said.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the medical examiner were also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
