Deputies ID suspect in Christmas tree theft

St. Johns County deputies search for man accused of stealing from pet rescue

A man is being sought in connection with the theft of a donated Christmas tree at the S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue shelter and store on Old A1A South, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

The man, later identified by deputies as George Glenn Cockhren, 51, could be seen in surveillance video driving a dark-colored, small pickup truck into the parking lot at 6:19 a.m. Nov. 25. A short time later, he is seen walking across the front of the building and then can be seen carrying a large, boxed Christmas tree back to his vehicle, deputies said.

Cockhren then drives off northbound on A1A.

Deputies have obtained an arrest warrant for Cockhren on burglary and petty theft charges. It carries a $26,000 bond.

Anyone with any information on Cockhren's whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Jason Kroul at 904-209-1457 or by email at jkroul@sjso.org.
