Murray Hill Library closes due to flooding

Water main break floods library ruining books and furniture

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Service was suspended at the Murray Hill Branch Library on Monday after water leaked through the foundation and into the building.

The library, at 918 Edgewood Ave. S., sustained interior flooding and other damage. The city said the library would be closed until further notice.

The library is normally closed on Mondays, but this time for a completely different reason. Many customers wishing to return their books say it will be an inconvenience to get to another branch to drop off their books, but officials are hoping to get the library back up and running soon.

It’s unclear just how much damage was caused by the flooding. News4Jax was able to view workers busily cleaning up the interior with stacked chairs on tables, wet boxes everywhere and multiple dryers on the floor.

Library officials are uncertain when the library will re-open but they are advising customers who have materials on hold they may pick them up at the Willowbranch Branch Library.

The book drop at the Murray Hill Branch Library will remain closed during this time, but customers may return materials at any library branch location.

Customers are also encouraged to take advantage of the library’s online resources and to visit the Willowbranch Branch Library or any of the system’s locations throughout Jacksonville.
