JSO: Man shot as shooters spray bullets for 3 blocks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man said he was shot late Wednesday night while walking down East 1st Street on Jacksonville's Eastside, police said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the man said he was shot between Florida Avenue and Van Buren Street.

He was taken to UF Health with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police responded to the area around 11:30 p.m. after reports of gunfire at the intersection of East 1st and Franklin streets.

Officers found shell casings at the intersection that extended down East 1st Street more than three blocks to A. Philip Randolph Boulevard, including the block where the man was shot.

Shell casings were also found in the 1100 block of Franklin Street.

According to police, bullets struck two unoccupied vehicles and a bathroom window in the East Gardens Apartments at 1212 East 1st St. The apartment unit was also empty during the shooting, police said.

A black Lincoln LS was also hit by gunfire multiple times and its driver fled the scene to 1182 W. 23rd St.
Violent crimes task force detectives were called in and evidence technicians responded and processed all of the scenes.

No suspects are in custody, police said.
