Hemming Park about to turn 150

City of Jacksonville bought property for $10 in 1866

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hemming Park is celebrating 150 years. The city paid $10 to buy the area from the family of Isiah D. Hart in January 23, 1866.

Hemming Park is holding a celebration at the park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan 23. The celebration will include music, a historic trivia contest, a "then & now" photo gallery, food trucks, activities for kids and more.

Throughout the day there will be a meeting for members to see future plans of the park at 11:15 a.m., historic knowledge trivia at noon, and at 1 p.m. people can participate in the "ostrich" shopping cart race and food drive. 

For $10 people can become a member of the city's oldest park. The normal price to become a member is $25, but it's set at $10 in honor of how much the park was sold for. 

The anniversary celebration event is free.
