SJC law enforcement remembers murdered deputy

St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar along with many men and women from the Sheriff's Office and other area law enforcement agencies attended the Ron Parker Memorial Ceremony at the St. Augustine Beach Park named after Parker on Tuesday.

Parker was murdered 41 years ago today when he was shot to death in his patrol car by Thomas Edward DeSherlia.

DeSherlia dragged Parker’s body from the car and tried to escape in Parker’s car, but was

caught after fleeing and engaging in a gun fight with St. Johns County deputies.

DeSherlia was already wanted in Iowa for two murders and a bank robbery in Alabama.

The Florida Department of Corrections confirmed DeSherlia died in prison in 2013.
