Mandarin Middle cleared after tip about weapon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A tip from a student about a weapon on campus prompted a lockdown Monday morning of Mandarin Middle School, but Duval County School Board Police said no weapon was found.

The school was placed on Code Red for 45 minutes while the school was searched and cleared.

"Duval County Public Schools is very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and security teams," spokeswoman Laureen Ricks said. " Duval County Public Schools also asks parents and caregivers to continue to talk with their children and emphasize their role in keeping our school campuses safe, and monitor items he or she may bring to school."
