SJCFR now hiring seasonal lifeguards

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – St. Johns County Fire and Rescue is looking for seasonal lifeguards to staff beaches.

Pay starts at $11.47 an hour. Lifeguards must be 18 or older and have a valid drivers license.

There are also physical requirements. All lifeguards need to be able to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes. They must also be able to run half a mile in less than three minutes and 30 seconds.

SJCFR is hosting an informational meeting for interested candidates on February 13. The last chance to try out for physical certification is on February 27. A tryout will be held that day from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. The school is located at 207 San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine.

Candidates must also have initial paperwork completed by March 1. You can find that paperwork here.
