JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There were two incidents Friday of guns being found at Jacksonville high schools, according to Duval County Public Schools.
DCPS officials said an 18-year-old Terry Parker High School student was arrested Friday after a loaded gun was found in his possession around lunchtime.
According to the arrest report, Tyquan Solomon was seen placing a folder with a loaded gun inside on a table during art class. He told police that the brought the gun to school because someone had threatened to kill him, and he was afraid.
DCPS police searched the school and students' belongings after the incident to ensure no other weapons remained on campus. No others were found and the school was cleared to return to normal activities.
In a separate incident, a group of suspects was taken into custody after a firearm was found in their vehicle on Ed White High School's campus.
The group was trying to enter the campus and was detained by DCPS police.
During a search of the vehicle, a weapon was found. Arrests are pending, officials said.
These are the fifth and sixth incidents in which guns were found on school grounds during the current school year.
