Funeral held for 22-month-old Aiden McClendon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Family and friends of a 22-month-old boy shot and killed in a drive-by a week ago gathered Saturday to lay the toddler to rest.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Aiden McClendon was in a car with his mother and grandmother a little over a week ago when shots were fired from a car driving by. The toddler was struck several times and rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Funeral guests wore white in Aiden's honor.Hundreds of people went to the service at Bethel Baptist Church for Aiden including Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry. Sheriff Mike Williams was also there and although his goal is to combat these types of crimes today was about the victim's family.

"It's tough you know it really is no family should have to go through this. I don't care what part of town you live in you shouldn't have to go through this again today is about the family and about supporting them. That's why we are here today," Williams said.

Other city officials gathered and say enough is enough with deaths like this one.

"My heart goes out to the family and I just want to tell the family we are all in this together and we are going to try to find out who did this," said Sam Newby, city councilman.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is still looking for the person who did this. Anyone with information about Aiden's shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
