Jordan Davis' father speaks at Edward Waters College

Ron Davis spoke to students about gun violence and politics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jordan Davis' father talked to students at Edward Waters College about gun violence and politics on Wednesday.

Ron Davis talked specifically about the 2016 presidential election. He said there are many politicians who pass laws to satisfy their campaign contributors, and that it's up to students to change the culture in Washington.

During his speech, Davis addressed President Obama's recent move in commuting the sentences of nearly 100 federal drug offenders. Davis agreed with the move and said the offenders need to be rehabilitated not incarcerated.

Davis also spoke to students about his son's death. The 17-year-old was shot and killed outside a Southside gas station in 2012 after an argument over loud music. The shooter, Michael Dunn, was convicted of murder.
