DELTONA, Fla. – Volusia County deputies have arrested a brother and sister who they say were caught on video stealing the cash box from a Girl Scout outside of a Walmart.
Nicholas Delbrugge, 20, and his 25-year-old sister, Ashley Winters, were arrested Wednesday after their return to Deltona from a trip to North Carolina, according to a news release.
Deputies say Delbrugge was caught on surveillance video stealing the money from the 12-year-old Girl Scout outside the Walmart on Howland Boulevard on Sunday.
The arrests came after a tip from a New Smyrna Beach police officer, who recognized Delbrugge in the video as someone he had arrested before, and an anonymous phone call identifying the sibling duo, according to deputies.
Their grandfather identified the duo to police and Winters' husband also identified his wife, his daughter and the vehicle seen leaving the scene was their vehicle. Deputies also said a Facebook picture of Delbrugge in the passenger seat of the Hyundai helped confirm the suspected culprits.
Delbrugge was charged with robbery by sudden snatching and petit theft. Winters was charged with being a principal to robbery by sudden snatching and petit theft.
The video prompted News 6 and Mix 105.1 to help get results and collect donations for the Girl Scout troop. More than $500 was raised for the troop with community efforts.
