1 dies, 1 critically injured in Putnam County motorcycle crash

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 64-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured and his 56-year-old passenger killed when a car turned left in front of their Harley-Davidson on Friday afternoon in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two were riding east on State Road 20 about 4:20 p.m. when they struck a westbound Mitsubishi Galant that was attempting to turn onto County Road 21.

Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle. The woman passenger, Sandra Lee Ricard, died at the scene. The man, identified as Lawrence Albert Ricard, was flown by air ambulance to UF Health in Gainesville. Both victims were from Tampa.

The driver of the car, Allen Odell Thomas, 63, of Hawthorne, suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, according to the FHP. Troopers said the investigation was continuing and charges are pending.

According to the accident report, neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.
