Officer running lights, siren struck by non-yielding vehicle at intersection ​

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A crash involving a police officer closed all eastbound lanes of University Boulevard and Powers Avenue Wednesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said an on-duty officer was going to assist another officer when he got into a crash.

JSO said the officer was driving north on Powers Avenue at the intersection of University Boulevard with his lights and siren running when he used due care to enter into the intersection against a red light.

As the officer entered the intersection another driver failed to yield and the front of her car struck the cruiser.

Deputies said the woman, her passenger and the officer were taken to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The road reopened just after 6 p.m.

No other information was immediately available.
