Surveillance camera captures alleged tire theft

Suspected thieves are still on the loose

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The owner of the Pit Stop Tire on 103rd Street woke up to check his surveillance video Saturday morning and saw two alleged thieves throwing tires over the fence and loading the tires into a U-Haul.

"Sometimes I wake up early 2:00, 2:30 and I had to wake up early to see what’s up around the store. That’s normal you know, see if something is going on. So tires flying over the fence," Riad Abuzneid said.

Abuzneid has been in the United States for 22 years. He's owned the tire shop for two. He enjoys that he is a part of a community.

"We are trying to do honest business. We are trying to do what’s best for people here. If you come here and you have no money we will be glad to give you a tire, to keep you going. And we’ve had many people we have done this for them," Riad said.

Riad said he called the Sheriff's Office when he saw the alleged theft on his camera system. He says when authorities arrived, the alleged crooks abandoned the U-Haul and deputies were able to recover a good number of the tires.

Some people in the neighborhood found other tires strewn about and returned them.

"I want to say to them thank you so much for the continued support of our business."

Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
