Man, dog killed in I-75 crash

Driver survived and taken to Ocala hospital


MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 30-year-old man from Clearwater and a small dog were killed in a crash on I-75 in Marion County Wednesday morning.

The man's identity was not released, pending next-of-kin notification.

Troopers said he was the passenger in a white Ford Explorer traveling northbound on the interstate.

For unknown reasons, the driver lost control and veered across three lanes, striking the center guardrail.

The SUV flipped and the passenger was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

Witnesses removed the driver from the vehicle.

Amanda Welch, 26, of St. Petersburg, was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
