4 injured after tractor-trailer hauling milk, truck collide head-on

3 inside truck have serious injuries, troopers say

LAKE CITY, Fla – Four people were injured, including three seriously, in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon involving a pickup truck and tractor trailer-trailer hauling milk in Columbia County, authorities said.

The wreck was reported just after 2:30 p.m. on State Road 247 near Southwest Dairy Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Dodge 1500 traveling southbound crossed the center line into the direct path of the tractor-trailer.

Troopers said the driver of the tractor-trailer braked and swerved to the rig to the left, the vehicles crashed in an angled, head-on collision.

The tractor-trailer then traveled off the roadway and overturned, troopers said.

The driver of the Dodge, a 28-year-old Lake City man, and the two passengers – an 8-month-old girl and a 4-year-old girl – were taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Lake City Medical Center with minor injuries.

Charges are pending investigation, according to FHP.
