Eighteen Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Honor Guard members traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in the annual National Police Week.

The events they participated in include the 28th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Friday at the National Mall and the National Peace Officers Memorial Day service on Sunday.

At Sunday's service, the names of 252 officers who lost their lives the line of duty in recent years were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The Sheriff's Office Honor Guard raises money year-round to be able to go to the nation's capital for the events.
