Vocal critic of school superintendent won't seek re-election

Duval Co. School Board member Connie Hall asked for Supt. Vitti to resign

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County School Board member who called for the resignation of Superintendent Nikolai Vitti earlier this year has decided not to seek re-election.

Connie Hall got into a very public dispute with Vitti after her text messages with the school district's auditor were made public. In one, Hall wrote: "Fire him now!"

During the fallout from the incident, board member Jason Fischer called on Hall to resign, saying he was "offended and disturbed" that a colleague would call Vitti’s administration “special ed in action,” which he said is offensive to people with disabilities.

Vitti has described the relationship between him and the board as a "hostile work environment."

Hall represented School Board District 5, which covers part of Jacksonville's Westside and Northwest Jacksonville.  According to the Duval County Elections Office, three people have filed to run for the seat: Shanna Carter, Bradford Hall and Hank Rogers.
