Religious statue destroyed in St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after someone destroyed a religious statue from a church in St. Augustine Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies said the statue was vandalized at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Datil Pepper Road around 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Demolished pieces of the artwork were found in the parking lot of the church.

After the damage was discovered by the pastor, the person or people entered the property again and threw the remaining pieces of the statue into the drainage ditch, according to the SJCSO.
