Jacksonville police says fatal shooting happened outside home on Neal Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old wanted by Jacksonville police on a robbery charge is was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in Monday night's slaying of a man outside a home off Sunbeam Road.

Michael Horne, 25, of Jacksonville, was found dead about 9 p.m. Monday after police were called to a shooting on Neal Drive, near the intersection with Old Kings Road.

Horne was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.

Horne's girlfriend told homicide detectives that they were sitting in an SUV when they were approached a young man with short dreadlocks who pulled a handgun and told Horne to "Give it up." She said the gunman fired once, then ran to a car and fled.

Police say Jemel Huddleston was detained after a traffic stop the next night based on a witness description. He was booked on the outstanding burglary charge but denied involvement in Horne's death.

After he was positively identified by the witness as Monday night's shooter, police said Huddleston confessed.

Huddleston is booked on charges of murder and burglary and was being held without bond.
