Train hits, kills man on tracks in Satsuma

SATSUMA, Fla. – An Amtrak train hit and killed a 52-year-old Gainesville man Wednesday morning who was on the tracks in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it happened about 11 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Country Road 309 in Satsuma. The engineer was alerted to the man on the tracks, but could not stop on time.

The FHP said none of the 151 passengers nor any crew members were injured. The train remained at the scene at 12:30 p.m., blocking C.R. 309.

Troopers have not yet released the victim's name.
