Motorcyclist dead after trying to avoid crash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist is dead after he laid down his bike Saturday night in Gainesville an attempt to avoid colliding with a vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Romanda Lacasy Thompson, 33, was driving his motorcycle north on SE 43rd Street and was approaching SE Ninth Place just as Aundre Jermaind Ryles, 20, was driving south on SE 43rd Street and attempting to cross traffic to turn onto SE Ninth Place.

Troopers said Thompson laid his motorcycle down on its left side, but he collided with the left front side of Ryles' Buick Century.

Thompson was taken to Shands/UF Health in Jacksonville, where he died.
