4 arrested in Putnam County drug operation

PALATKA, Fla. – Three men and a woman were arrested Friday in Putnam County during an anti-drug operation conducted by the sheriff's office.

Donterius Ashley, 22, was charged with selling crack cocaine and violation of probation.

Edward Fuqua, 34, was charged with selling crack cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arnetta Whitfield, 33, was charged with selling cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana and driving on a suspended license.

Marshal Sheffield II, 35, was charged with selling crack cocaine.

According to the sheriff's office, detectives and street crimes unit deputies targeted the Moseley Avenue area of Palatka after they learned that drug deals were taking place in the parking lots of several area businesses.

Over a period of about five hours, the four suspects who were later arrested sold drugs to undercover detectives, deputies said.

Ashley sold crack cocaine to an undercover detective before being arrested by street crimes unit deputies who were waiting nearby, the sheriff's office said.

Ashley is currently on probation for a previous sale of narcotics case that resulted from an undercover investigation in April 2014. A condition of his probation requires Ashley to remain confined to his approved residence.

Ashley is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail without bond.

Fuqua also sold crack cocaine to undercover deputies. When he was arrested by street crimes deputies, they found a bag containing additional cocaine in his mouth and a crack cocaine pipe in his shoe.

Fuqua is in the Putnam County Jail with a bond of $8,000.

Whitfield sold cocaine to detectives before driving away from the area, deputies said. When she was stopped and arrested, they found additional crack cocaine, powder cocaine, Oxycodone and marijuana in her possession, deputies said.

Whitfield remains in the Putnam County Jail with a $11,200 bond.

Sheffield sold crack cocaine to an undercover detective in the parking lot of the Chevron Gas Station at the intersection of Moseley Avenue and Reid Street before being arrested by street drimes deputies, the sheriff's office said.

Sheffield was released on a $5,000 bond.
