10 parents arrested in Brunswick truancy crackdown

Glynn County schools says arrest warrants for 17 parents were obtained

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – Ten parents were arrested during a truancy crackdown in Brunswick after failing or refusing to make their children go to school, Glynn County school officials said Friday.

According to Jim Wiedhaas, public information officer for Glynn County schools, arrest warrants for 17 parents were obtained on the charge of educational neglect.

At last check, 10 people had been arrested, Wiedhaas told News4Jax.

He said they’re all parents of young students in kindergarten through second grade.

Wiedhaas said that truancy rates in the district are “alarming.” He said notices and warnings were sent first, but those measures didn’t work.
