Eureka Gardens owner accused of welfare fraud in Indianapolis

Global Ministries Foundation accused of failing to provide safe or sanitary hous

INDIANAPOLIS – The owner of several federally subsidized housing complexes in Jacksonville, who has come under fire for deplorable living conditions at the apartments, is accused of welfare fraud and providing poor living conditions to families living it its Indianapolis properties.

WRTV reported Friday, “Global Ministries Foundation is being asked to repay $618,962 in housing benefits for the past year over allegations they failed to provide safe or sanitary housing.”

According to WRTV, the Indianapolis Housing agencyAgency will move 147 families out of the Section 8 housing.

GMF is the same company that owns six Jacksonville properties, including Eureka Gardens and Washington Heights, which the News4Jax I-TEAM has been investigating for months over concerns of deplorable living conditions.

The owner of GMF, the Rev. Richard Hamlet, put the company’s Jacksonville properties up for sale last month, as well as five other properties.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development were just in Jacksonville this week, speaking with residents.
