Police investigate attempted murder-suicide in Southbank parking

Jacksonville deputies say man shot woman he knew as she left work

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A women and a man were hospitalized after what Jacksonville police describe as an attempted murder-suicide late Thursday afternoon in a parking lot off Riverplace Boulevard.

About 5 p.m., a man confronted a woman he knew as she was leaving work near the Riverside Towers, long  on the Southbank, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

As she was getting into her car, the man shot her and then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Both were taken to the hospital and were in life-threatening condition, the Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said the incident was "domestic in nature."

The Sheriff's Office has not released the names of those involved and continues to investigate, including checking any history of domestic violence between the gunman and the woman.
