Off-duty Brevard deputy fatally shoots man after road-rage incident
PALM BAY, Fla. – An off-duty Brevard County deputy shot and killed a man Sunday morning in Palm Bay after an incident that stemmed from a road-rage incident, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey
Deputy Yousef Hafza was placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting 22-year-old Clarence Mahogany X Howard. Howard was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The details of the shooting haven't been released, but Ivey says the shooting appears to have been done in self-defense. A passenger was in the vehicle with Howard at the time of the incident who was not hurt. Tthere appeared to be no witnesses to the shooting other than that person.
It was not immediately clear whether the deputy's service weapon was used in the incident, but Ivey noted deputies are allowed to carry them while off duty. Hafza, who was unharmed during the incident, has been placed on administrative leave.
Hafza has been working for the department less than a year. He has 11 years of law enforcement experience.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
