Gunfire also hits homes, car on Steele Street, police say

A man was shot Thursday morning on Steele Street just west of Myrtle Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The gunfire also struck several homes and a car in the area, police said.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the area and found numerous rifle shell casings and handgun shell casings in the street.

JSO evidence technicians processed the scene, with about 60 evidence markers in the street. A white car with a bullet hole in the windshield is also visible on the grass.

The victim, who was driven to UF Health hospital, said he was shot by an unknown suspect.
