LAKE CITY, Fla. – A 22-year-old woman was critically injured Sunday night when she was shot by an 18-year-old woman while riding in a car in Lake City, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said Alexis Hill was flown from Lake Shore Medical Center to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with a gunshot wound to her upper body.

The woman accused in the shooting, 18-year-old Bethany Wood, is being held without bond in the Columbia County Detention Facility on charges of aggravated battery, firing into an occupied vehicle, possession of a weapon in the commission of a felony, and discharging a weapon in public.

Detectives said Hill was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her boyfriend on Forest Terrace between Hubble Street and Country Road 252 about 11:20 p.m. Sunday when Wood drove up behind them as they parked and fired into their vehicle.

It's unclear why Wood fired, deputies said.

She drove away from the scene but was arrested a short time later in Lake City, deputies said.
