JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A family is remembering a loved one whose body was found July 1 in a ditch on the Westside. Terrance Taylor, 28, left behind two young children.
Two days later, his family gathered near the site for a vigil to mourn his death. Taylor's wife, Shalinda Taylor, said everything is slowly setting in for her.
She said they were high school sweethearts who married in Las Vegas.
"My son is 8 and he's taking it pretty hard," Shalinda Taylor said. "That's why I didn't want him to come out here tonight. My daughter is 4, but she really doesn't understand. She still thinks he's going to walk through the door, and he's not."
Officers with a K-9 following up on an assault reported earlier in the week found Taylor's body in a wooded area between homes on Center Street and Interstate 10, near the Roosevelt Boulevard exit. Taylor was a suspect in that assault and had been reported missing by his family.
Police don't have a cause of death at this point. Taylor's wife is begging for answers.
"I just want justice for my family. That’s all I want. Because I can’t bring him back," Shalinda Taylor said.
The family is preparing a funeral for Taylor. Anyone with information on his death is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
