JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend outside an Arlington convenience store on Saturday also tried to run him over with her car and slashed his tire, police said Tuesday.

Lt. Steve Gallaher with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Rasean Marcell, 25, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, 25-year-old Jataren Bethel.

Gallaher said Bethel died at a hospital after being stabbed just before 10:45 p.m. outside a Century 21 Food Mart on Century 21 Boulevard, just off Atlantic Boulevard between Arlington Road and Southside Boulevard.

Gallaher said Marcell at first told police she found Bethel stabbed inside the store and did not know what happened. But when investigators confronted her with surveillance video, she admitted to being in an argument with Bethel that night.

The argument started at Marcell's apartment, police said. Bethel left in his car, and Marcell followed him in her car, Gallaher said.

The argument continued in the convenience store parking lot, and Marcell tried to run Bethel over with her car, Gallaher said.

She then got out of her car with a steak knife and stabbed a back tire of Bethel's car, Gallaher said.

When Bethel approached her, Marcell stabbed him in the neck, and he ran into the sore and collapsed, police said.

Marcell followed him into the store and when police arrived she was trying to help him, police said.

Gallaher said the couple had a previous domestic incident in March 2015 in which Bethel was listed as a suspect in a simple battery involving Marcell.

Bethel's mother told News4Jax her son was a giving man, but sometimes he didn't know when to let go. She said Marcell had been violent toward him before and he had broken up with her, but always went back.

"I asked him, 'Why are you still with her?' And he said, 'Mom, I love her,'” Blondeva Bethel said.
