ALACHUA, Fla. – A 1-year-old boy drowned Monday night in a pool in Alachua County, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said family members were leaving a home on Northwest County Road 239 when one of the children slipped away.

The family began searching for the child and found him in the pool.

Deputies said the family was having a hard time getting emergency services on the phone and drove to a fire station for help.

The 14-month-old child was airlifted to UF Health Shands Pediatric Emergency Room, where the child died.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, deputies said, but there appears to be no foul play.
